Multi tool deals on Amazon

The following multi tools are currently selling for well below list price on Amazon:

- Nite Ize Doohickey, $3.98

This key-sized multi tool clips onto your keychain for several everyday uses.  It includes a flathead driver, different sized wrenches, bottle opener, box cutter, and -- of course -- bottle opener.  List price: $4.99.

- Gerber Dime, $15.99

Gerber makes several different multi tools in the same size and price range as the Dime.  One factor that makes the Dime stick out is its protruding bottle opener.  The Dime comes in multiple colors, and Amazon sells different-colored Dimes for different prices.  If you're not picky about color, you can get a Dime on Amazon for as low as $10.49.  List price: $21.00.

- SOG PowerLock EOD, $57.99

This Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) tool has many military and civilian uses.  The multi tool has flathead and Phillips drivers, a partially-serrated knife, scissors, wire cutter and crimper, double tooth wood saw, and more.  It comes with a nylon sheath.  List price: $124.25.

All of these tools qualify for Amazon's free shipping (if you spend at least $25).

Holiday gift guide: Tool and tool storage deals

Tools make a great gift for many different types of people: mechanics, weekend DIYers, new homeowners, hobbyists, etc.  With the holidays fast approaching, online retailers are throwing up new deals every day.  Below are some current online deals that can net you a good tool (or tool storage) present for a great price.

Milwaukee 48-32-4502 Magnetic Bit Holder (Home Depot, $3.97)
Magnetic bit holders tend to be generic and unremarkable; they either work or they don't.  This Milwaukee bit holder stands out, however.  It has a slightly smaller footprint than many other bit holders (2.36" rather than 2.5") and the magnet is very strong.  For a more detailed description, see my full review of this bit holder.

Cat Premium Plastic Portable Tool Box with Lid Organization and Removable Tote (Amazon$25.71)

This tough plastic toolbox measures 9.25" x 20" x 9" and includes everything you'd expect to find: removable plastic tote, removable small parts organizers in the lid, metal padlock eyes, and reinforced side walls.  There's even a ruler imprinted onto the lid.  This tool box gets a 4.6 out of 5 star rating on Amazon.

For a less expensive option, check out the Stanley 016011R Series 2000 16-Inch Tool Box.  It's smaller (7.8" x 16" x 7") and not quite as tough, but it currently sells for $18.76 and it may drop lower.  (It has been as low as $10.35 recently.)

- Ryobi 130-Piece Drill and Drive Bit Set (Home Depot, $9.88)

Probably too large for a stocking stuffer, this 130-piece bit set would make a great gift for anyone running low on drill or driver bits.  The set includes Phillips, slotted, Torx, square, and hex bits.  It also comes with a magnetic bit holder and a durable plastic case.

- Anvil 5-Piece Pliers Set (Home Depot, $4.88)

Anvil seems to be one of Home Depot's newer brands.  The pliers in this set probably won't be the highest quality pliers ever seen, but at less than $1 per pair, it's hard to beat that price.  This set would make a good gift for someone who needs some extra pliers to stow in the car or in a kitchen drawer for emergencies.

First impressions: SOG Micro ToolClip and MacV Tool

I got my first two SOG tools in the mail: the SOG Micro ToolClip and the SOG MacV Tool.  They came as a set -- the City Survival Kit (model #) for $14.99 on Amazon (up to $17.99 as of today).

Already, the SOG Micro ToolClip is one of the more impressive multi tools I've used.  It's small -- easily a pocket tool -- but it's strong.  The tool is well-designed.  I look forward to testing it out.

The MacV seems kind of cool so far -- a decent keychain tool.  Its Phillips driver is next to worthless, but otherwise it has a lot of useful functions.

I'll post a full review once I've tested them both out.  As of right now, I'd say the City Survival Kit for about $15 is a decent deal.

Multi tool price drops on Amazon

Here are some multi tools that have dropped in price on Amazon recently:

Gerber Suspension:  About the same size as a Leatherman Sidekick or Wingman, this multi tool -- currently an "Amazon's Choice" product -- usually goes for around $28 to $30 on Amazon.  Right now, it's listed for $22.99.

Gerber Curve:  The Curve is a pocket knife that can clip onto your belt or keychain, with locking screwdrivers.  It's typically listed for about $10, but right now Amazon has it at $7.19.

LORJE Tactical Pen:  Calling this pen a multi tool might seem like a stretch, but it can also be used for self-defense or breaking glass.  It previously sold for $5.88 but is now down to $3.26 -- much cheaper than some other tactical pens.

Stanley ratcheting stubby screwdriver on sale on Amazon

The Stanley 66-358 stubby ratcheting multibit screwdriver is a solid tool for $5 or $6.  It's hard to find a good ratcheting screwdriver that's also magnetic, but this one is.  It comes with multiple bits and storage for all of them.

Right now on Amazon, this driver is on sale for $4.07, the cheapest price I've seen it sold for so far.  Read a full review of it here.

Gerber Shard on sale on Amazon

The Gerber Shard is a multifunctional pocket tool (full review here) that usually sells for about $5 or $6 on Amazon.  Right now it's listed for $4.33, one of the better prices Amazon has sold it for.  If you are purchasing other items as well, the Shard can count toward your total to qualify for free shipping.

Stanley 66-344 pocket screwdriver on sale on Amazon

Stanley's 66-344 4-in-1 pocket screwdriver, possibly the best pocket screwdriver on the market, can be purchased right now on Amazon for just $2.39 (eligible for free shipping).  That's a great deal for this pen-sized screwdriver, and is about half of what it's often listed for online.  The interchangeable bits are magnetic and the driver stands up well to use.  (Full review here.)

Leatherman Brewzer on sale at Amazon

The Leatherman Brewzer is a handly little pocket multi tool.  It usually sells for about $9 or $10 on Amazon, but right now it's only $7.38.  If you've been thinking about picking up a Brewzer, that's a really good price for it.

Read a full review of the Brewzer here.

Gerber Shard multi tool for under $3!

If you've been thinking about picking up a Gerber Shard keychain multi tool, now is definitely the time to do it.  This pry bar/cross driver/bottle opener/slotted driver/box cutter all in one usually sells on Amazon for about $6 or so... right now it's listed at $0.33 plus $1.99 shipping, for a total of $2.32 (plus any applicable tax).  There is no way this price will be good long-term, so if you're considering purchasing a Shard -- either for yourself or as a gift -- you'll probably never find a better price on it.  (Full review of the Shard can be found here.)

Keychain Multi Tool Deals on Amazon

Here are two small multi tools that have dropped in price on Amazon lately:

The Leatherman Brewzer typically sells for about $10 on Amazon.  It's a pretty good little keychain tool.  Right now it's offered at $7.78, so if you've had this one on your wish list, now is a great time to buy it.  That's the lowest price I've seen it for on Amazon.  (You can read my review of the Brewzer here.)

The Nite Ize DoohicKey is a similar tool to the Brewzer, but it also functions as a carabineer.  It's being listed right now for $3.98, when it typically sells for $5 or $6 (or more).

Gerber Shard price drop on Amazon

The Gerber Shard is a handy little multi tool (full review here).  It typically sells for almost $6.00, but right now on Amazon you can get it for $3.85.  That's a good price for the tool you get -- bottle opener, two slotted drivers, cross driver, pry bar, wire stripper.  If you're at all considering buying this multi tool, this is probably the lowest price you'll see for a new one any time soon.

DeWalt MT16 multi tool deal on eBay

The DeWalt MT16 multi tool typically sells for $20 or more.  (Full review of it here.)  Right now, someone is selling the MT16 tool on eBay for just $13.99 with free shipping.  That is a good deal for this multi tool.  I don't know how long that price will last, but it's the lowest price I've seen for the MT16.

Tool Deals on Amazon

With Black Friday just passed and Cyber Monday coming up, there are a lot of great deals to be found online.  Here are some tools that can currently be had for lower-than-normal prices on Amazon.com:

- Irwin Pocket Level, $2.63

This pen-sized pocket level was listed for $3.09 last week -- not a huge discount, but cheaper is still better.  If you use a level a lot, this one doesn't weight much and can clip onto a pocket, belt, or strap.

- Stanley All-In-One Screwdriver, $3.58

This simple screwdriver with 4 bits and two hex nut driver sizes is normally sold for about $5 on Amazon.  It's a good screwdriver to throw in a drawer or glove box, because it has several standard-sized bits included.

- Stanley Stubby Ratcheting Multibit Screwdriver, $4.24

This driver is a good stubby screwdriver.  It ratchets, has magnetic tips, and comes with several different bits, as well as storage for those bits in the handle.  The Stanley stubby ratcheting driver usually costs $5 or $6 on Amazon.  You can read a full review of this driver here.

- Leatherman Wingman, $19.96

The Wingman is one of the cheaper Leatherman multi tools that you'll find, but it's not a cheap multi tool.  It has many tools built into one -- pliers, knife, screwdrivers, bottle opener, etc.  The Wingman is typically sold on Amazon and in Home Depot stores for around $30.

- Wiha 1000-Volt Magnetic Driver, $22.85

If you do any work around live electricity, an insulated screwdriver is a good thing to have.  This one from Wiha comes with both slotted and Phillips bits, with internal storage in the handle for 8 bits.  It normally sells for close to $30.
